Introduction

The Royal Automobile Club Foundation for Motoring Ltd (RAC Foundation for short) is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, number: 1002705.

The RAC Foundation is legally distinct from both RAC Motoring Services (the breakdown business) and the Royal Automobile CLub.

The RAC Foundation promises to protect and respect your privacy. It also outlines our commitment to keeping your data safe and secure, and manage it in line with data protection laws.

What type of personal data do we hold?

The RAC Foundation holds contact information – which may include your: name, mailing and work address, email address, phone numbers.

We collect information about you when you communicate and interact with us. This includes information you provide to us when you contact us about our work, when you register for our events and when you consent to receive our e-bulletins.

We might also collect data about you from public platforms such as social media accounts. Please check your own privacy settings on things like Twitter and Facebook to make sure what information you are sharing with us and others.

How do we use your data?

The personal data we hold is, broadly, used for some, or all, of three main purposes:

Informing you of the latest work of the RAC Foundation
Inviting you to specific events organised or hosted by the RAC Foundation
Communicating with you on a day-to-day professional basis

We might also ask you for your opinion on certain matters of relevance to our work and goals.

Where contractors are providing services to the RAC Foundation their bank account details might also be held.

All the data is processed in line with this privacy policy, is stored for no longer than necessary and is not passed on to third parties without your consent. The RAC Foundation is neither a trading nor a fund-raising organisation and hence your data will not be used for commercial or financial purposes.

Where we have a legitimate interest to process your information to support our charitable aim of “exploring issues relating to roads and their users. The Foundation publishes independent and authoritative research with which it promotes informed debate and advocates policy in the interest of the responsible motorist.”

How we keep your information safe

We invest in the appropriate resources to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We make sure we manage it in accordance with our legal responsibilities under applicable data protection laws.

Although all other information will be sent by a secure connection, information sent over the internet, including email, can never be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely.

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.

We will never sell or rent your information to third parties and we will never share information that individually identifies you with third parties for marketing purposes without your consent.

We will always strive to take appropriate steps to ensure that your privacy continues to be protected.
