National economic council 03 Oct 2008

Commenting on the membership of the National Economic Council, Professor Stephen Glaister, Director of the RAC Foundation, said "It is difficult to see how the National Economic Council can fulfil its remit, of making the right decisions "to equip the country for the future" in the absence of the expert advice on transport infrastructure and climate change represented by the Secretary of State for Transport. The Eddington report, commissioned by Gordon Brown, unequivocally states that "the performance of the UK’s transport networks will be a crucial enabler of sustained productivity and competitiveness." Transport is a key element in the UK's economic recovery."
