Motoring tax revenue and road spending

This first chart shows the annual spending by national and local government in Great Britain since 1979 and also the combined income received by the Treasury from fuel duty and VED. It is in outturn prices. The chart was created to complement a report for the RAC Foundation by David Bayliss – Public Expenditure, Taxes and Transport: Land transport in Great Britain.

This second chart is the same as above but inflation adjusted.

The third chart shows total road spending as a proportion of fuel duty and VED income.
