Car Rental 2.0: An industry perspective

This think piece summarises the findings from a joint seminar held by the RAC Foundation and British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) in July 2012 on alternatives to car ownership – car rental, traditional and one-way car clubs, and liftsharing.

It highlights some of the challenges currently faced by the sector, for example the integration with other modes of transport, and identifies ways in which these can be come, most notably technology. The paper also examines the potential for new car ownership models to kick-start the electric vehicle market, as well as the role of local authorities and central government in creating the necessary policy framework for car clubs and rental to mature.
